Parish Profile: Saint David’s Episcopal Church, DeWitt
Saint David’s Episcopal Church in DeWitt is a welcoming and open-minded community that deeply values the arts and fellowship. Our vibrant music program reflects this passion (when you sing, you pray twice), with our sanctuary filled by the rich sounds of a hybrid organ and enhanced by a dedicated four-part choir during our 10am Sunday service (except in summer). For over fifty years, our annual Celebration of the Arts has been a cherished gift to the community, featuring musical performances and art shows. Recently, we have expanded our musical offerings to include community events such as Coffee Houses as part of our association with the Oneida Lake Arts & Heritage Center, Art Shows and a Meditation and Reflection hour after Christmas with quiet music to soothe and calm holiday nerves.
Worship Services
We offer two Sunday services: a quiet, intimate 8am service and an inspirational 10am worship filled with music. Our core group of lay volunteers actively participate in various roles, including service leaders, readers, acolytes, greeters, and coffee hour hosts. Our advanced sound system enhances audio throughout the church, and services are streamed and posted online to ensure accessibility. Additional accommodations are provided to welcome all participants.
Our Setting
Nestled on a peaceful cul-de-sac, our church is surrounded by natural beauty. Large ground-level windows open to a courtyard on one side and our serene Memorial Garden on the other, creating a visual connection between worship and the world around us. Located in the safe suburb of DeWitt, we enjoy easy access to Syracuse, Wegman’s, Green Lakes, and other nearby parks.
Community and Fellowship
Hospitality is at the heart of Saint David’s. We cherish our coffee hours, monthly "First Friday" dinners, and special events featuring delicious food. Our close ties with two other East Side Episcopalian congregations enrich these gatherings, as well as shared study programs and seasonal services.
Our church facilities serve as a hub for various community and Diocesan groups throughout the week. Red Cross Blood Drives, Music recitals, lessons, twelve-step meetings, and even a bridge group take advantage of our convenient location, ample parking, and welcoming atmosphere. Building use fees are thoughtfully set to support community-minded events.
Leadership and Vision
We seek a thoughtful rector who brings both personal warmth and intellectual insight. Our hope is to find a leader who embraces our current strengths and envisions new possibilities for growth. While our congregation has aged and experienced some losses, we have joyfully welcomed new members, especially from the LGBTQ community. Our positive experience with a half-time rector over the past five years has prepared us to continue with a part-time leader, supported by an engaged congregation and vestry.
